Using Family settings

Now that you have entered your PIN, you can start managing the settings.

In the Family settings menu you can switch on:

Family setting – Switching on this will enable all PIN settings, meaning children will be unable to watch adult content or make purchases without parental permission.

Require PIN for daytime viewing – This control means children will have to get you to enter your Sky PIN in order to watch any shows or movies rated 12+ before its normal watershed time.

Require PIN for purchases – By enabling this setting, children will be unable to make purchases from the Sky Store or Box Office unless you input the PIN for them.

Setting age ratings

Setting an age rating on your Sky Glass device will restrict what content your child can watch, and will ensure they do not view content that is meant for older audiences.

To set an age rating:

Step 1 – Navigate to the Apps and Videos section within the Parental Settings menu.

Step 2 – Here you can choose the minimum age certificate that your child will require a PIN to watch.

Whatever age you select, a PIN will also be required for all age certificates above this. For example, if you choose 12 as the age that requires a PIN, a PIN will also be required to watch 15 and 18 rated movies.

To allow or block apps

The parental controls on Sky Glass will not affect how apps on the device can be used. You can change the parental settings for an app within the app’s own menu.

However, if there is an app you don’t want your child to use without your knowledge and permission, you can make it so a PIN is required before the app can be opened on your Sky Glass.

To manage apps:

Step 1 – Go to the Change PIN section within Parental Settings.

Step 2 – Using the All available apps option, you can choose to have PINs on for all apps, off for all apps, or have them be individually set.

To individually select which apps require PINs:

Step 1 – Put the All available apps option to Individually Set.

Step 2 – Scroll down the list of apps below, and set them to On if you want them to require a PIN to access, or Off if you are ok with your child accessing them at any time.
