Parent tips

  • Talk about how digital tools can support learning


    Explain that tools such as search engines, study websites and AI chatbots can help children understand topics or find information.

    Encourage children to think of these tools as helpers for learning rather than shortcuts to finishing work.

  • Encourage children to think about the answers they receive


    If children use an AI tool or website for homework, ask questions like:

    -“Do you understand how it got that answer?”
    - “Could you explain it in your own words?”

    This helps children stay engaged with the learning process.

  • Help children develop good research habits


    Encourage them to:

    - check more than one source
    - avoid copying text directly
    - write their own ideas after reading information.
    This helps them build confidence in their own knowledge.

  • Support responsible and honest use of tools


    Talk about why schools expect children to complete their own work.

    Reassure them that it’s okay to use tools for support, but their own effort and understanding matter most.

    Many children already use AI chatbots or online tools for schoolwork. Helping them use these tools thoughtfully can strengthen their problem-solving and critical thinking skills rather than replace them.
