The challenge
We would like children to create their own online safety champion. Their champion should be unique and interesting and show a good understanding of how to stay safe online.
The prizes
The school with the winning entry will win a storytelling and drawing workshop from children’s author and illustrator, Rob Biddulph who is judging the competition, and the winning design will be turned into a Digital Matters character and feature in a new lesson, launching in September 2025, plus the top three entries will win these great prizes for their school, courtesy of Tesco Mobile:
- 1st place: £7,500 donation (including £500 Tesco gift card)
- 2nd place: £5,000 donation (including £500 Tesco gift card)
- 3rd place: £2,500 donation (including £500 Tesco gift card)
Competition details
- Closing date: 20th June 2025
- Winner announced: 8th July 2025

How it works
The competition is open to all Primary School teachers of pupils aged 9 to 11, who are registered with Digital Matters. Teachers must register/sign in to Digital Matters to access the competition lesson pack. The lesson pack comes with everything you need to carry out the activity, including an animated video to play in class.
Students should draw their champion using the template provided, either by hand or using a program like paint and fill out the questionnaire to tell us about their champion.
Then teachers should submit all entries together, in one file using the entry form here, or by sending them all together in a large envelope.
