Parent tips

  • Talk about why keeping personal images private matters


    - Explain that sharing an image with one person doesn’t guarantee it stays with them.

    - Help children understand that even trusted friends can accidentally or deliberately reshare images.

  • Encourage children to pause before sending photos


    If children want to share an image, ask:

    - “Who are you sending this to?”
    - “How would you feel if someone else saw it?”

    This supports them to think about consequences before pressing send.

  • Support children to handle requests safely


    Reassure children that they are never expected to share images of themselves.

    Let them know they can come to you if:

    - someone keeps asking
    - they feel uncomfortable
    - they regret sending something

  • Show children what to do if something goes wrong


    Talk about actions they can take, including:

    - telling a trusted adult
    - blocking the person
    - reporting the content
    Remind them that support is available even if they chose to share the image at first.

    Many children approaching secondary school report facing pressure to share images. Early conversations can help prevent situations from escalating later.
